See Sebastian ErraZuriz’s Mid-Career Survey At Philadelphia Museum of Art

Last we wrote about Chilean artist, activist, and corporate strategic advisor Sebastian ErraZuriz, he was preparing for “Look Again,” his first solo museum show, at Pittsburgh’s Carnegie Museum of Art. That was 2014. Since, he has created a 20,000-square-foot sand maze on a Miami beach, guest-lectured at Harvard University’s Tech Lab, and self-published his first book, Imagine Artificial General Intelligence, outlining his interest and expertise in technology. All of which has led to him receiving the 2025 Collab Design Excellence Award, an affinity group for modern and contemporary design at Philadelphia Museum of Art, its past honorees including George Nakashima, Faye Toogood, and Patricia Urquiola. PMA is simultaneously exhibiting “Double Take,” ErraZuriz’s mid-career survey that spans more than 20 years of production, ranging from his early conceptual works to his famous “kinetic” cabinets to the PMA-commissioned Lightning Strike lamp. “My audience,” ErraZuriz says, “has learned to expect that every piece I create carries an extra twist.” That audience extends to New York, where his “Brute Force” is on view at Thirty8east gallery until March 10; New Dehli in February for India Art Fair; and London for a David Gill Gallery exhibit opening in spring.
